Goryeo Hotel
The Koryo Hotel is the second largest operating hotel in North Korea.[1] The twin-towered building is 143metres (469ft) tall and contains 43 storeys.[2][3][4] Erected in 1985[5][4] under the close scrutiny of Kim Il-sung, it was intended to "showcase the glory and strength of the DPRK." The hotel's extravagance is exemplified by its entryway, which consists of a 9-metre (30 ft) wide jade dragon's mouth[1] that leads into an expansive lobby[6] dominated by a mosaic of North Korean cultural symbols.[1] The mosaic tiles make use of a wide variety of precious metals[7] and gemstones underneath low-dispersion glass panes, which are replaced biannually to preserve the mosaic's luster.
The hotel is rated three stars by western standards.[8] North Korea rates it as five stars.[1] The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes it as "Deluxe" and the "best international hotel in Pyongyang".[9]

Location
The hotel is situated along the Taedong river in Chung-kuyok, central Pyongyang at 390?31.47?N 12544?9.92?E? / ?39.0087417鐧 125.7360889鐧? / 39.0087417; 125.7360889.[10]
Accommodations
The hotel offers 500 rooms[11] although only about 50 rooms are occupied at any one time[12][13][14] (giving it an occupancy rate of 10% compared to Seoul with an 80% occupancy rate in its high end hotels[15]), usually by business people from China, Africa, and the Middle East[16] and UN staff.[17] The Washington Times claims most of the hotel's foreign guests are international arms dealers.[18] The hotel does achieve full or near capacity every April 15 with delegations invited to celebrate Kim Il Sung's birthday.[19]
It would appear the US State Department has been using a guest room in the hotel since 2007 as a de facto office by a single employee to handle administrative affairs.[20]
Rooms and Rates
According to the World Health Organization[21], the rates are as follows:
single, upper story room: $112double, upper story room: $121single, lower story room: $102double, lower story room: $112
Rooms, services, food, and other goods within the hotel appear to be priced in dollars.[22]
In room TVs carry three channels.[23] Guests report power outages and recommend packing your own flashlight.[24] [14] Rooms are equipped with a mini-bar and are checked each day by a team of three people, of which one person inventories, the second recounts and a third supervises the pair.[14]
Amenities
Amenities include a hard currency gift shop, gym, a swimming pool[7], a revolving restaurant on the 45th floor[17], a circular bar on the 44th floor[16] and two movie theaters (one 200 seat cinema and one 70 seat cinema).[4] The hotel also features a billiards room[4] on the second floor[25] and a casino in the basement. The casino offers blackjack, roulette, and slot machines[26]. The casino is staffed by Chinese workers.[27]
Restaurants
Each tower is actually topped by a revolving restaurant, however only one is open.[13] One can order steak ("the best steak in town") at the restaurant.[25] The revolving restaurant apparently had a 9 pm closing time but in recent years the closing time has been extended or relaxed based on the quality of the guests' tipping.[28] Aside from the single open revolving restaurant, the hotel has four other restaurants including a Japanese restaurant and a Korean BBQ restaurant.[4]
The restaurants are run by Japanese expatriates and are run as private businesses but must pay a fee to the state.[29]
Guest liberty
By some reports guests are prevented by guards from leaving the hotel.[30][31] However, others report the ability to wander off the hotel grounds.[32][33] If one can wander off the grounds, the hotel is a few blocks from the city's restaurant district and the Pyongyang Railroad Station.[25]
Older Koryo Hotel
The Koryo Hotel replaced an older hotel of the same name, but in a different location. For a time after 1946 the leader of North Korea's Democratic Party Cho Man-sik was kept under house arrest in the older Koryo Hotel.[34][35] When United Nations forces threatened to overrun Pyongyang in October 1950, it is thought he was executed.[36]
Koryo Hotel in South Korea
There is also a Koryo Hotel in Bucheon, South Korea.[37] Bucheon is satellite city of Seoul (located roughly half way between Seoul and Incheon). It is popular with corporate travelers as it is one of the few hotels in the area which are not by...(and so on)

Tyan Computer Corporation (??; also known as Tyan Business Unit, or TBU), is a subsidiary of MiTAC International, and a manufacturer of computer motherboards, including models for both Intel and AMD processors. They develop and produce high-end server, SMP, and desktop barebones systems as well as provide design and production services to tier-1 global OEMs, and a number of other regional OEMs.
The company was founded in 1989 by Dr. T. Symon Chang, a veteran of IBM and Intel. At that time, Dr. Chang saw an empty space in the market in which there were no strong players for the SMP server space, and as such he founded Tyan in order to develop, produce and deliver such products, starting with a dual Intel Pentium-series motherboard as well as a number of other single processor motherboards all geared towards server applications. Since then, Tyan has produced a number of single and multi-processor (as well as multi-core) products using technology from many well-known companies (e.g. Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Broadcom and many more). Notable design wins include that of Dawning corporation for the fastest supercomputer (twice); first to market with a dual AMD Athlon MP server platform; and winner of the Maximum PC Kick-Ass Award (twice) for their contributions to the Dream Machine (most recently, the 2005 edition).
Tyan is headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, separated between three buildings in the Nei-Hu industrial district. All three buildings belong to the parent company, MiTAC. The North American headquarters are in Fremont, California, which was also the previous corporate headquarters before the merger.
The merger in question was with MiTAC, a Taiwanese OEM which develops and produces a range of products (including servers, notebooks, consumer electronics products, networking and educational products - as well as providing contract manufacturing services), was announced in March 2007 [1] and completed on October 1st of that year. Under the umbrella of MiTAC, Tyan acts as the brand leader and core engineering and marketing arm for delivery of server and workstation products to the distribution and reseller channel, and continues to act as a design and production services house for OEM customers.

Mustiness also known as being dank is the state or property of being musty. For example you could have a dank or musty pub which would be full of smoke, beer, and stale smells, yet that might give it its character. Except that doesn't happen anymore because of smoking bans. The property of being dank also suggests being old, and being dark, and being traditional.
Examples of dank pubs: [1] [2]
Musty household odours can be a problem. To avoid them, keep windows open and use ventilation, and use air freshener. Air freshener can be in a spray can, or in a little plastic thing.
Dank bars are common more in Europe especially the UK, and particularly Scotland and Ireland, than in North America. This is because smoking is less common there, and hygiene standards are often more strictly adhered to.

Terence John Peck MBE, CPM (2 August 1938 -- 30 December 2006) was a member of the Falkland Islands Defence Force who during the 1982 Falklands War became a war hero by spying on the Argentine invaders, subsequently escaping to British lines, acting as a scout for 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment, and taking part in the fighting for Mount Longdon. A fiercely patriotic Islander he vehemently opposed Argentina's claim to the Islands, he later met and befriended an Argentine conscript who served during the war.
Born in Stanley, he was descended from Irish and English (Norfolk) emigrants to the Falkland Islands. Educated in Stanley, in his youth he boxed and became a member of the Boys' Brigade. On leaving school he found work in the construction of a meat packing plant at Ajax Bay in Falkland Sound. After joining the Police Force and the Falkland Islands Defence Force he became involved with the Argentine Sovereignty Claim in 1966.
On 26 September 1966, an Aerol闊揺as Argentinas DC-4 flew low over Stanley before attempting to land at the racecourse. On its approach it clipped telegraph poles, and on touching down the undercarriage sank into the soft ground bringing the aircraft to an immediate and jarring stop. Earlier that day, the aircraft had been hijacked whilst on an internal flight by Right-Wing Argentine nationalists, known as the Condor Group, who forced the crew to fly to the Falklands, apparently unaware there was then no airport. Islanders, including Terry, assumed the aircraft was in trouble and rushed to help only to be taken hostage by the terrorists. Despite the serious nature of this incident, there were many elements of farce, not least of which was Terry's escape hidden under the robes of a local priest acting as mediator. After their surrender the terrorists were returned to Argentina to receive light sentences and were lauded as heroes.
He continued in his career with the Police Force becoming the Chief of Police and attending the Bramshill Police College, Hampshire. Whilst serving in the police force, he displayed his characteristic courage and tenacity, on one occasion driving for 10 hours across the Camp to rescue a family whose house burnt down one Christmas. On another he ignored orders, diving on the wreck of an aircraft in Mare Harbour to assist in the rescue of the bodies of the occupants. Although he was awarded the Colonial Police Medal in 1975, he became dissatisfied with the police service and retired early. One of the secret duties of the Chief of Police was to collate intelligence on local political agitators, including legislative councillors, and the few Argentines living in Stanley; this was a duty he found increasingly distasteful. He was elected a member of the Legislative Council shortly afterward, where he ardently opposed any transfer of sovereignty to Argentina. In 1980, when Nicholas Ridley visited the islands to attempt to persuade the islanders to accept the leaseback proposal that the Falklands be given to Argentina, then leased back for 100 years, he fitted a loud hailer to his Land Rover with which the protestors harangued Ridley on his journey to the airport.
Terry was sworn back in as special constable the day before Argentina invaded and at one time was considered by the Argentine occupiers as a candidate for Chief of Police; they could not have considered a more unsuitable candidate. He immediately began to do his utmost to undermine the occupying forces. His behaviour after the invasion caused consternation amongst the locals as he appeared to be wandering around Stanley clutching a length of drainpipe. In reality this disguised a telephoto lens, with which he photographed Argentine preparations for the defence of the town. The photographs he had taken were smuggled out of the Falklands by British contract workers taking the opportunity to leave the islands, providing valuable intelligence for British Forces.
The Argentine military police, led by Major Patricio Dowling, arrived on the islands with detailed files on many islanders, particularly those known for their anti-Argentine views. Dowling, an Argentine of Irish origin who hated all things British, frequently over-stepped his authority, ignoring instructions to treat the islanders with respect and quickly became known for his tendency to resort...(and so on)

Thai silk is produced from the cocoons of Thai silkworms. Thai weavers, mainly from the Khorat Plateau in the northeast region of Thailand, raise the caterpillars on a steady diet of mulberry leaves. Khorat is the center of the silk industry in Thailand and a steady supplier of rose Thai silk for many generations.[1]
Today, Thai silk is considered to be one of the finest fabrics in the world, a product of a unique manufacturing process and bearing unique patterns and colors.

Origin
After silk originated in ancient China where the practice of weaving silk began around 2,640 BCE, Chinese merchants spread the use of silk to different regions throughout Asia through trade. Some accounts indicate that archaeologists found the first fibers of silk in Thailand to be over 3,000 years old in the ruins of Baan Chiang, the site is considered by many to be Southeast Asia's oldest civilization. [2]
Weaving
The production of Thai silk begins with the Bombyx mori, a small silk worm that comes from the eggs of a silk moth. For their first year, these worms feast on the leaves of mulberry trees before building a cocoon from their spittle.
In its original cocoon form, raw silk is bumpy and irregular. Thai weavers separate the completed cocoons from the mulberry bush and soak them in a vat of hot boiling water to separate the silk thread from the caterpillar inside the cocoon.
The Bombyx mori usually produces silk thread of varying colors, ranging from light gold to very light green, with lengths varying from 500 to 1,500 yards per cocoon.
A single thread filament is too thin to use on its own so Thai women combine many threads to produce a thicker, usable fiber. They do this by hand-reeling the threads onto a wooden spindle to produce a uniform strand of raw silk. The process is a tedious one as it takes nearly 40 hours to produce a half kilogram of Thai silk.
Many local operations use a reeling machine for this task, but the majority of most silk thread is still hand-reeled. The difference is that hand-reeled threads produce three grades of silk: two fine grades that are ideal for lightweight fabrics and a thick grade for heavier material.
The silk fabric is then soaked in hot water and bleached before dyeing in order to remove the natural yellow coloring of Thai silk yarn. To do this, skeins of silk thread are immersed in large tubs of hydrogen peroxide. Once washed and dried, the silk is then woven using a traditional hand operated loom. [3]
Identification
Since traditional Thai silk is hand woven, each silk fabric is unique and cannot be duplicated through commercial means. In contrast, artificial silk is machine woven, which means that every part of the fabric is identical and has the same color.
In addition, Thai silk has a unique luster, with a sheen that has two unique blends: one color for the warp and another for the weft. Color changes as you hold the Thai silk fabric at varying angles against light.
Moreover, Thai silk smells like hair when burned, a testament to the natural fiber that comes from the silk worm, which is similar to the fiber of human hair and fingernails. If you move the flame, Thai silk immediately stops burning. On the other hand, artificial silk smells like plastic when burned.
In terms of price, Thai silk is usually 10 times more expensive than artificial silk.
Types
To be able to identify genuine Thai silk easily, Thailand's Agriculture Ministry uses a peacock emblem to authenticate Thai silk and protect it from imitations. The peacock emblem serves as a guarantee of quality and it comes in four different colors based on specific silk types and production process[4]. These are the following:
Gold peacock
Indicates the premium Royal Thai Silk, a product of native Thai silkworm breeds and traditional hand-made production.
Silver peacock
Indicates Classic Thai Silk, developed from specific silkworm breeds and hand-made production.
Blue peacock
Indicates Thai Silk, a product of pure silk threads and with no specific production method (allows chemical dyes).
Green peacock
Indicates Thai Silk Blend, a product of silk blended with other fabrics and with no specific production method.
Exports
In 2006, $14,540,325 worth of silk was exported from Thailand. The predominant markets are the U.S., and the U.K.[5] Silk fabric accounts for about half of the silk exported from Thailand (the rest being raw silk, yarn, cocoons, and silk waste). However, Thai producers remain only a small contributor to the global trade in silk.[6]

Masha Archer (born 1940) is a Ukrainian-American jewelry designer, belly dancer and entrepreneur.
Biography
Born in Kiev to a sculptor father and painter mother, Masha and her family fled the Soviet Union in 1942 and lived in an American displaced persons camp in G?ttingen until 1949, when they emigrated to Philadelphia.
She studied graphic design at Pratt Institute in New York City, but left early to take a job as a restorer and exhibitor at the Museo Nacional de Arte in Mexico, hoping to eventually attend the art school there. She never matriculated, but met her future husband, art photographer Charles Homer Archer (1929-1993). Their first child, Maya, was born in Mexico.
Living in Tucson and San Francisco in the 1960s, Masha redirected her arts training into clothing design, and became known for harmoniously mixing patterns and bright colors. In the seventies she studied belly dancing with Jamila Salimpour, and founded the San Francisco Classical Dance Troupe, developing and popularizing what came to be known as the American Tribal Style Belly Dance. One of her students, Carolina Nerriccio, went on to direct the successful Fat Chance Belly Dance troupe and school, also based in San Francisco.
In the early 1980s, Archer began her Art-to-Wear jewelry line. Combining her artist鎶 sense of color and an architect鎶 attentiveness to structure and function, she utilizes such materials as turquoise, coral, antique ivory, malachite, copal, jade, pearl, and petrified wood. Her husband, an alumnus of the fabled Black Mountain College in North Carolina, documented all her work in clothing, jewelry, and dance in a vast legacy of art photography until his death from cancer in 1993.

Bugs was a British television drama series which ran for four series from April 1995 to August 1999. It was originally broadcast on Saturday evenings on BBC One, and was produced for the BBC by the independent production company Carnival Films. The production was originally based at two warehouses of Blackwall Basin, on the Isle of Dogs in London. After the IRA bombing of the South Park Plaza, the crew had to travel further to find intact buildings for exterior locations. [1]

Overview
The series was devised by Carnival boss Brian Eastman and producer Stuart Doughty with input from veteran writer-producer Brian Clemens, who had previously worked on The Avengers. Clemens described Bugs as "an Avengers for the 1990s". Other notable series writers included Colin Brake and Stephen Gallagher. Two episodes ("Bugged Wheat" and "Hollow Man"), were written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who went on to create the series Smallville. The theme tune was written by Gavin Greenaway.
The programme was a mixture of action/adventure and science-fiction, with a reliance on fast-paced plots, technical gadgetry, stunts and explosions. Much of the programme's filming took place around the London Docklands area, which had recently been redeveloped with projects such as Canary Wharf. This was intended to give a modern, and perhaps even slightly futuristic, feel to locations of the episodes.
The plot of the programme involved a team of specialist independent crime-fighting technology experts, who faced a variety of threats based around computers and other modern technology. The main trio of regulars were Nick Beckett (Jesse Birdsall), Ros Henderson (Jaye Griffiths) and Ed (Craig McLachlan in series one to three, Steven Houghton in series four). Initially an independent team, they began working alongside the government agency 'Bureau of Weapons Technology' in series two and from series three, with the original Bureau decimated, they came under the authority of the newly-created Bureau 2, whose head was codenamed Jan (Jan Harvey) and her secretary, Alex (Paula Hunt). The series evolved, as a result, from a series of relatively unconnected one-off episodes to an over-arching 'soap opera' complete with office romances.
The programme came close to cancellation at the conclusion of its third series, but due to an exciting cliffhanger ending deliberately included by the production team, and strong foreign sales, a fourth was commissioned. The final series suffered from being moved to an earlier timeslot on Saturday evenings, and for only having the first eight of its produced ten episodes scheduled for broadcast.[2] Coupled with the Omagh Bombing forcing the BBC to postpone the series for a week, this meant that the concluding three episodes would not be broadcast until a year later. Another attempt to save the show by giving the series a cliffhanger ending was not successful, and the ending of the final episode as Ros and Beckett are abducted by an attacker unseen by the audience but recognised by Beckett was never resolved.
The series has something of a minor cult following in the UK, not least for glaring production faults - for example in the first episode the cast are quite clearly stepping onto pre-chalked outlines to aid what was presumably a necessarily short external shot.
Overall 40 episodes were produced, ten in each of the four series. Virgin Publishing produced novelizations of the episodes of the first series, but these were not successful and subsequent episodes were not novelised. As of 2005, the series is available on DVD in series-by-series box set form, released by Revelation Films. A complete box set collection of all four series is also available.

References to The Avengers
Bugs contains several references to 1960s cult series and Brian Clemens' masterpiece, The Avengers. Here are some examples:
The colour of Beckett's Jeep Cherokee is British racing green, the same green as the various Bentleys John Steed used to drive in The Avengers.
In "Down Among the Dead Men" (series 1, Episode 4), Beckett keeps correcting Ed who speaks of boats instead of ships. John Steed also explained the difference between boats and ships to Tara King in the The Avengers episode "Game".
In "Shotgun Wedding" (series 1, Episode 5), Ros is seen rather badly sewing a fake...(and so on)

Plot
Angel asks Wesley and Cordelia to look into the mysterious history of the abandoned Hyperion Hotel. A photograph of the hotel blends into an action shot of the hotel exterior during the 1950s, as the manager sends the bellhop upstairs to give the guest in 217 his weekly bill. The bellhop nervously makes his delivery then runs downstairs, as Angel the feared occupant of 217 opens the door. As the House Un-American Activities Committee hearings blare on a TV, Angel strolls through the lobby. He observes a man banging on a door, and the manager turning away an African-American family, telling them that - despite what their sign says - the hotel has no vacancies. Back in his room, he finds a woman pretending to be a maid. When Angel calls her bluff, she tells him that she's hiding from her boyfriend, the man earlier seen banging on the door. Angel helps her hide from him.
In the present, the group arrives at the Hyperion. As Angel heads upstairs, Cordelia discovers that the property is a historical landmark, plagued by strange events since it was built. Cordelia then spots Angel in a 1952 photograph of the hotel lobby, and Wesley realizes that Angel has a personal connection to the Hyperion.
In 1952, the salesman in the room next to Angel's listens to a record, talks to someone unseen, then holds a gun to his head. Angel hears a gunshot and the record skipping, and drinks his chilled glass of blood without reacting. When the manager and bellhop discover the salesman鎶 suicide, the manager hears a demonic voice whispering "They鎶 shut you down" and instructs the bellhop not to call the police; instead they hide the body in a meat locker. That night, the guests gather at an observatory, where they discuss the suicide and wonder why the cops hadn't been notified. Judy tries to thank Angel, but he is unreceptive. The next day, the guests continue to discuss the salesman, questioning if he might have been murdered. Upstairs, when Angel comments on Judy's agitation, she confesses the man banging on the door was a PI sent by the bank from which she stole money. She was fired when they found out that although she "passes" as white she is actually part African American. Judy laments her decision to steal, and Angel replies that 鎻籩ar makes people do stupid things," then clarifies he was referring to her employers. As Angel stashes Judy's bag of money in the basement, he hears whispering and realizes something in the hotel is making people crazy.
In the present, Cordelia and Wesley find newspaper reports of the bellhop鎶 arrest for the salesman鎶 murder, and an article about Judy with the headline, 鎻漞arch Called Off Fugitive Woman Believed Dead. Down in the basement, Angel finds the bag of money and once again hears the whispering. He joins the others, announcing the hotel hosts a Thesulac demon that whispers to its victims, then feeds on their insecurities. He says he already knows the ritual to make it corporeal so that it can be killed.
In 1952, Angel returns from a bookstore where he learned the ritual to corporealize the demon; meanwhile, the PI reveals Judy鎶 secret. When the guests turn on her, she points them towards Angel, announcing that he has blood in his room. Everyone attacks Angel, except Judy, who starts to cry. Angel is dragged into the hallway; a noose is tied to a rafter and he is pushed over the railing to hang. The crowd cheers, then slowly wonders what they鎶砮 done. When everyone leaves, Angel lets himself drop into the lobby. On the stairs, the Thesulac demon becomes corporeal, gloating about the paranoia he just fed on; as Angel's friend, Judy's betrayal was more delicious, saying that Angel's intervention had made her "a meal that will last a lifetime". The demon says, 鎻焗ere's an entire hotel here just full of tortured souls...(and so on)

The Victoria Cup is the premier middle distance harness race of Australia. Conducted over 2575m, rather than the staying distance of over 3000m or the sprint distance of under 2000m, the Victoria Cup was run at the Melbourne Showgrounds up until 1975, when it was shifted to it current home at Moonee Valley. The race has been part of the Australasian Grand Circuit since 1987. Conducted in February from 1987 to 2003, the race is now conducted in December, alongside the Australasian Trotting Grand Prix.
The race is a Group One race, and in 2007 when won by the classy, yet previously out of form Robin Hood was run for $350,000AUD. Robin Hood saluted at the juicy odds of $17.
The current race record of a mile rate of 1.56.7 was set by Chokin NZ in 1994 when the race was run over 2380m, since the race shifted to 2570m or 2575m since a track upgrade, Double Identity in December 2003 holds the record of a mile rate of 1.57.2 over the 2570m trip.

Game table, c. 1815, mahogany, gesso, gilding, and ormolu mounts.
Charles-Honor Lannuier, French-born American cabinetmaker (17791819), lived and worked in New York City. In Lannuier's time, the style of his furniture was described as "French Antique." Today his work is classified primarily as Federal furniture, Neoclassical, or American Empire.

Early life and influences
Charles-Honor Lannuier was born outside of Paris in Chantilly, France, on June 27, 1779, son to Michel-Cyrille Lannuier, an innkeper, and his wife, Marie-Genevi閼 Malice. From childhood, Charles-Honor Lannuier was influenced by his older brother, Nicolas-Louis-Cyrille Lannuier, and an uncle, Jean-Baptiste Cochois, successful cabinetmakers selling furniture in pre-Revolutionary Paris. Both relatives contributed to Lannuier's training as an 闁庨枤iste (furniture maker). The social unrest and disruption of the economy by the French Revolution caused Lannuier to emigrate to the young American republic in 1803. Though the French Revolution brought the disbandment of the furniture guilds, and the associated fashionable practice of labeling pieces with a maker's label, Lannuier continued that tradition in the U.S. despite its lack of guilds.
Materials and decorative motifs

Center table gu闁瀒don, c. 1810, mahogany, satinwood, rosewood, and possibly sycamore veneers, gilded brass, and marble. Located in the Red Room of the White House.
In Paris, Charles-Honor Lannuier worked primarily in mahogany, with limited amounts of satinwood and rosewood veneer inlays. Early pieces show the influence of late Louis XVI-style furniture. After moving to the United States, Lannuier benefitted from the more stable economy and access to exotic hardwoods, which allowed him to work on a larger scale using solid pieces of precious woods.
Lannuier's furniture is characterized by its use of architectural motifs-columns, brackets, pediments, and pilasters; Greek and Roman motifs including anthemions, lyres, caryatids, dolphins, laurel wreaths, and winged figures. Federal motifs associated with the early Republic include eagles and five- or six-pointed stars. Large figures were carved and gilded, while smaller decorative mounts were cast in bronze and gilded.
Range of furniture
Lannuier's earlier work included sideboards, commodes, worktables, dining tables and chairs, and game tables. As the Empire style became more entrenched, and his success grew, Lannuier produced larger, more expensive pieces including sofas, cylinder desks, and bedsteads. While his pieces are considered within the Empire style, Lannuier's work is distinct for being more delicate and for recalling the refinment found in the Directoire style. Examples of Lannuier's furniture can be seen in the White House Red Room, the Albany Institute of History and Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Origin

Blue suede shoes similar to those that inspired the song
Johnny Cash planted the seed for the song in the fall of 1955, while Perkins, Cash, Elvis Presley, and other Louisiana Hayride acts toured throughout Texas and the South. Cash told Perkins of a black airman whom he had met when serving in the military in Germany. He had referred to his military regulation air shoes as "blue suede shoes." Cash suggested that Carl write a song about the shoes. Carl replied, "I don't know anything about shoes. How can I write a song about shoes?"[1]
When Perkins played a dance on December 4, 1955, he noticed a couple dancing near the stage. The girl was gorgeous, he thought, and the boy wore blue suede shoes. As they danced the boy cautioned his date "don't step on my suedes." Perkins was bewildered that a guy would value shoes over a beautiful girl.[2]
Later that night, while in bed, Perkins began working on a song based on that incident. His first thought was to frame it with a nursery rhyme. He considered, and quickly discarded "Little Jack Horner..." and "See a spider going up the wall...". Then settled on "One for the money..." Leaving his bed and working with his Les Paul guitar, he started with an A chord. After playing five chords while singing "Well, it's one for the money... Two for the show... Three to get ready... Now go, man, go!" and broke into a boogie rhythm.[3] He quickly grabbed a brown paper potato sack and wrote the song down, writing the title out as "Blue Swade, S-W-A-D-E". "I couldn't even spell it right," he later said.[4]
The song was recorded weeks later, and producer Sam Phillips suggested that Perkins's line "go boy go" be changed to "go cat go".
Success of Perkins' Sun Records release
The Sun recording of "Blue Suede Shoes" was released on January 1, 1956. Two copies of the song on 78 rpm records arrived broken. Perkins soon discovered that the song was only available in the newer 7" microgrooved 45 rpm format. Meanwhile, in both Jackson, where Perkins lived, and in Memphis, radio stations were playing the flip side of the record, "Honey Don't." In Cleveland, Ohio, however, disc jockey Bill Randle was featuring "Blue Suede Shoes" prominently on his nightly show, and before January was over, the Cleveland distributor of the record asked Phillips for an additional 25,00 copies of the record.[5]
"Shoes" became the side of choice throughout the South and Southwest. On February 11 it was the #2 single on Memphis charts, was number one the next week, and remained there for the next 3 months. Perkins made four appearances on the Big D Jamboree[6] on radio station KRLD (AM) in Dallas[1] where he played the song every Saturday night, and was booked on a string of one nighters in the Southwest. The Jamboree emanated from the Dallas Sportatorium with about four thousand seats, and it sold out for each of Perkins' performances. Music shops in Dallas ordered a huge number of records,[7]and at one point the record was selling at a rate of 20,000 copies per day.
A Song Hits review of the song, published February 18 stated that "Perkins has come up with some wax here that has hit the national retail chart in almost record time. Interestingly enough, the disk has a measure of appeal for pop and r.&b. customers."[8]
